Seguin softball goes 4-2 in Huber Ranch tourney
(Seguin) – Seguin hosted its annual softball tournament at Huber Ranch over the weekend and came away with four wins against two losses over the course of the three-day event.
Chloe Belicek hit three home runs to help Seguin win the first two games on Thursday, 3-2 over Pharr-San Juan Alamo and 10-1 over Edinburg North.
Belicek cleared the fence twice, including the walk-off shot, against Alamo. She finished that game with three RBIs. Kendall Hurt was the winning pitcher.
Belicek drove in four runs against Edinburg North. Ryan Rangel also launched a home run in that game and drove in three. Camryn Rios doubled twice. Vanessa Sanchez scored twice and drove in two runs. Allie Kubena went 2-2 with an RBI. Madyson Schultze earned the win in the circle.
Seguin dropped a pair of games on Friday, falling to Midlothian 7-4 and Weslaco 15-1. Rangel drove in a combined four runs on the day. Layla Salazar also recorded an RBI. Belicek and Ashlie Aguilar each went 2-2 against Midlothian.
The Matadors bounced back to close the tournament with two wins on Saturday, 13-0 over Laredo United and 3-2 over Southwest Legacy on a walk-off home run by Sanchez in the fifth inning.
Sanchez’s home run against Southwest Legazy was part of a 3-3, three RBI performance. Aguilar went 2-2 with a run scored. Schultze allowed a single run on six hits in three innings to earn the win.
Hurt tossed a three-inning no-hitter against Laredo United. Belicek and Sanchez each hit home runs in that game. Belicek went 3-3 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Kubena went 3-3 and drove in four runs. Sanchez went 2-2 and drove in two. Aguilar finished 2-3, scored twice, and drove in a run. Summer Flores also drove in one.
After a 4-2 tournament weekend, Seguin’s season record is 11-5. The Matadors resume the District 26-5A schedule on Tuesday in Kerrville with a 7 p.m. first pitch against Tivy.
Seguin baseball splits four tourney games in Austin
(Austin) – The Seguin High School baseball team earned two wins and suffered two losses this past weekend at the Austin ISD Tournament.
The Matadors split the first two games on Thursday with a 4-0 setback to Austin-Akins and a 14-0 run-rule win over Austin-Navarro.
Cooper Neumann doubled twice to go 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the win over Austin-Navarro. Cory Mazzurana went 2-4 and drove in three. Lando Trost and Tim Belicek recorded two hits apiece, and Trost drove in two. Trost was also the winning pitcher, tossing a two-hitter and striking out six in six innings on the mound. Belicek scored twice, and Drew Burnett drove in a run.
Seguin earned another run-rule win on Friday, 20-5 over Manor.
Klein Vickers launched a home run and finished with two RBIs. He also earned the win on the mound. Nick Carmona doubled twice, drove in two runs, and scored three times. Seth Cevallos hit a double and a triple to go 3-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Burnett, Belicek, and Mazzurana collected three hits apiece. Belicek drove in two. Burnett notched an RBI and scored three runs.
The Mats concluded the tournament Saturday with a 10-4 loss to Dallas-Bishop Lynch.
Belicek went 2-2 with a run scored. Cevallos and Eddie Homan each went 2-3, with Cevallos driving in two runs and Homan adding an RBI. Mazzurana and Burnett each went 1-3. Mazzurana drove in a run, and Burnett scored once.
Seguin’s 2-2 tournament finish moves the team’s season record to 5-3. The Matadors resume the Districxt 26-5A schedule Tuesday at ‘Smokey’ Joe Williams Field with a 7 p.m. first pitch against Kyle-Lehman.
