SHS names valedictorian, salutatorian for class of '19

The top graduates have been announced at SHS for 2019. Seguin High School's Valedictorian is Rosemary Katharine Cramblitt and the Salutatorian is Lena Elise Deharde.

(Seguin) — A pair of young ladies at Seguin High School have been named top of their class. Recognized as this year 2019 Valedictorian is Rosemary Katharine Cramblitt. Cramblitt says she is honored for the recognition and looks forward to sharing the moment with the rest of her graduating class.

“I was pretty shocked actually because originally, I actually didn’t start in freshman year with everyone else. I actually came in my sophomore year before I went to Lifegate Christian School so I just was hoping that I’d be in the top 10 percent so that I could have that extra boost in admissions for public schools but man, I was totally shocked. I was ecstatic and everything. It felt like such an honor and I couldn’t have been happier and my parents were so proud of me,” said Cramblitt.

Named as this year’s Salutatorian is Lena Elise Deharde. Deharde says she too is grateful for the honor and is glad to have put in the work.

“I was just blown away. I’ve worked hard my whole high school career and just to know that it all kind of paid off — my work paid off because I’ve always tried to keep my grades up and I knew there was a reason behind it all so this just kind of shows that hard work does pay off,” said Deharde. “It’s always been a goal of mine. I had a cousin when she was in high school. This was quite a few years ago. She was valedictorian of her class and she’s always kind of just been a role model for me so I wanted to work hard and kind of do the same thing.”

Unlike other known competitions between top ranking students, Cramblitt says she and Deharde developed something more special. She says they along the way became pretty good friends.

“We’ve always just been pretty good friends. We started getting to know each other I think in our first that we had together. That class was physics and that was junior year and I just got to know her through student council as well. She’s a wonderful girl. I couldn’t have a better friend,” said Cramblitt.

Following graduation, Cramblitt plans to major in management information systems at the University of Texas in Austin while Deharde pursues a degree in neuroscience with a pre med track at Baylor University.

Both students will lead their peers during Saturday’s commencement exercises at Matador Stadium. The graduation ceremony gets underway at 8 p.m.
