(Seguin) – The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing its top employees for 2021. Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke says each year, a list of award recipients is announced at the end of each year for both the sheriff’s office and adult detention center.
Zwicke says like most years, he’s not surprised by those who top the list of the department’s best of the best.
“When I looked at the names and the names that came to the top this year, lots of good candidates – we had to narrow it down to the top one, of course, but all of them are worthy of that award. Those that ended up being selected, they do just an awesome job when you look at what they do each and every day representing the citizens of Guadalupe County, representing the sheriff’s office. They just do a great job. We are living in tough times in law enforcement dealing what we are dealing with all the way from dealing with the craziness out of Washington all the way down to the COVID pandemic, dealing with just life on the streets and in the jail – what goes on in today’s world,” said Zwicke.
Topping that list for 2021 include Deputy of the Year Thomas Martinez; Sheriff’s Office Supervisor of the Year, Lt. Javier Luna; Telecommunicator of the Year, Beatrice Montoya; Detention Officer of the Year, Isaiah Charles, Detention Supervisor of the Year Sgt. Abraham Haiyasoso and Detention Support Staff of the Year, Beverly Risien. Zwicke says locking in a tie for Investigator of the Year were Investigators Evan Hale and Elaine Reamer.
Each year, Zwicke also gets to nominate and make his own personal selection. He says recognized with this year’s Sheriff’s Award was the Narcotics Division.
“I felt that with all the hard work that the narcotics unit has done – you look at the millions of dollars of drugs that they’ve taken off the streets, they were worthy of that award this year – not to mention they were also the state’s Narcotics Unit of the Year,” said Zwicke.
Zwicke says the annual awards are made even more special for the recipients because it’s their peers who make the overall selection.
“The awards come about; they are nominated by the employees at the sheriff’s office. Everyone is allowed to nominate who they think is best for each of those categories,” said Zwicke.
The awards were presented in December during the sheriff’s annual Christmas luncheon.
