(Seguin) — Early this morning, the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority temporarily lowered the water level at Lake McQueeny by approximately one foot.

GBRA communications manager Lindsey Campbell says the reduction is to allow for better visibility, evaluation and inspection of the non-responsive spill gate at Lake Placid.

“We expect the lake level at Lake McQueeny to return to normal by late afternoon (Tuesday). So hopefully at that time, our engineers can get a better idea of what might be needed to reengage the spill gate,” said Campbell.

Campbell confirms the one-foot reduction in water level will be accomplished by passing flows through the powerhouse and will not involve spill gate operations.

GBRA officials say the unresponsive gate was discovered after Thursday’s flooding event in Guadalupe County. The issue is said to mirror the dewatering of other area lakes a couple of years ago. Since late Thursday afternoon, the area lake has continued to drain. The issue presents itself as a Lake Placid Water Control and Improvement District continues to work with the river authority in creating a plan to replace the spill gates at the dam. GBRA officials say they hope to have a better update on the situation later today or early Wednesday.
