(Seguin) — It was a trip down memory lane for Seguin High School graduates. The senior students on Wednesday took their final ride on a SISD school bus and headed over to their former elementary school for a walk down the halls. The visit to their former stomping grounds is all part of a senior tradition known as the SHS Parade of Honor.
The seniors in their caps and gowns were greeted along the hallways by the younger students.
Among those enjoying the high-fives and cheers by the little ones at Weinert Elementary School was SHS Senior Harley Bauer. Bauer says although she did not attend elementary school in Seguin, Wednesday’s trip to the local campus was still definitely memorable.
“I think it was really fun. I remember when I was little watching all the seniors walk and it was just exciting and fun. I actually didn’t go to elementary in Seguin. I just came with one of my friends to walk
with her. I think no matter what elementary school I went to, little kids will still look up to seniors no matter where they came from,” said Bauer.
That friend who shared her elementary campus with Bauer was SHS Senior Emma Luu.
Luu, who transferred from St. James Catholic School to Weinert in the third grade, says the Parade of Honor was just another great senior experience.
“Like, a lot of memories just came flooding back and I almost started to cry. I know some of the kids here also and it’s just nice seeing them and how they cheered us on and stuff,” said Luu.
The senior tradition was also special for one sibling set. Senior Louis Flores says he was excited to walk the hallways of his former school — a school in which his younger brother now attends.
“It meant a lot to me. I mean just to show all of these kids, all of the hard work that all of us seniors have done not just myself and also just to get them to motivate them to do harder and want to do something further past high school. It was very special that he was there just so he can see me and to also give him some extra motivation to do more in school and also to be more involved within school,” said Louis.
As for his brother, fifth grader Evan Flores, the moment was a proud one especially since it was in front of all his peers. He says while he has always looked up to his big brother, seeing him graduate gives him even more motivation to do his best.
“It made me feel pretty good and it looked kind of cool. He kind of makes me want to go and try harder and want to go to a good college and set my goals high,” said Evan.
Seguin seniors also got the chance to take group photos outside their former schools and for many, visit with former teachers and staff members.
