(Seguin) – Seguin High School senior Kaleb McCann signed a letter of intent to join the football program at NAIA member school Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas during a signing event in the SHS Student Activity Center on Friday.
McCann was the starting tight end for the Matadors’ District 12-5A-Division I championship team last fall.
He made the All-District Honorable Mention list after pulling in eight receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown, and using his blocking skills to help Seguin’s prolific offense average 52 points and 506 yards per game.
McCann is traveling more than 650 miles from home to join the Scots’ football program, but his recruiting visit and time spent with head coach Chris Douglas left him with a feeling of comfort and familiarity.
“I was familiar with the offense, the coach was really nice, honest, the town up there was so nice, and everybody up there was nice,” McCann said. “The campus is an old campus, but it’s kept together. I met some of the professors, and they’re so invested in the football program, and the coach is really excited to have me playing multiple positions up there.”
Lyon competes in the NAIA’s Sooner Athletic Conference. McCann plans to major in biology.
