Seguin ISD names new school principal, announces new campus leadership positions

(Seguin) — A Seguin ISD elementary school will be welcoming a new leader for the upcoming school year. The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees has approved the appointment of Valerie McKinney as the new school principal at Jefferson Avenue Elementary School.

McKinney was promoted to serve as the top campus administrator after having served at the assistant principal at Patlan Elementary School. McKinney replaces former School Principal Aaron Hannah who will now serve as an assistant principal at Seguin High School.

McKinney says she is excited to learn more about her campus and is ready to develop relationships with all of her new families.

“I’m really excited for this opportunity and I can’t wait to see where Jefferson goes. I really want to bring the community back into the schools. That’s going to be my focus,” said McKinney. “Everyone is welcome and I’m excited to meet everyone and be a part of the community.”

In addition to the principal appointment at Jefferson, the school district this week also announced additional campus administrator positions. They include:

– Robert Arriola, associate principal, Briesemeister Middle School

– Tori Beutnagel, associate principal, Barnes Middle School

– Bianca Duvall, assistant principal, Briesemeister Middle School

– Trisha Eckols, assistant principal, McQueeney Elementary

– Tracee Gonzales, assistant principal, Jefferson Elementary School

– Kristi Miranda, education data analyst

– Allison Seidenberger, restorative practices coordinator

– Suzanne Zink, assistant principal, Seguin High School

Academic dean positions were also appointed at five elementary schools. The assignments include Christina Ramirez, Jefferson Elementary; Robert Strever, Koennecke Elementary; Yvette Gamboa, McQueeney Elementary; Lisandra Black, Patlan Elementary and Jessica Castro, Weinert Elementary.

Sean Hoffmann, chief communications officer for the Seguin ISD, says the academic dean position is new to both Koennecke and McQueeney.

“We had several positions that were filled. Many of these are academic dean positions. We have five new faces who will serve as academic deans at the elementary schools so as we prepare for the fall and are trying new things to try to improve the academic success of each and every child within our district, we feel that these academic deans at the elementary level are going to help us reach that goal and provide that extra support to our campus administrators and ultimately to our families,” said Hoffmann.

The announcement of the new districtwide leadership positions was made during Tuesday’s regular board meeting of the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees.
