(Seguin) – Softball players Kelly Jurden and Skylar Ouellette, Men’s Soccer striker Luis Green and defender Mitchell Long, and Men’s Basketball forward Caleb Lister each picked up major awards Wednesday evening at the 2021 Texas Lutheran Athletics Awards Program.

Jurden, the Bulldogs’ redshirt junior outfielder, was named the TLU Female Student-Athlete of the Year and the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and redshirt junior outfielder Skylar Ouellette was named the TLU Female Sportsmanship Award winner.

Green, the junior All-American for TLU Men’s Soccer, was named the TLU Male Student-Athlete of the Year; and Long, a senior defender, was named the TLU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Lister, a senior for the Bulldogs, was named the Male Sportsmanship Award winner.

The student-athlete of the year awards recognize the top male and female athletes at TLU. The scholar-athlete awards honor the top male and female student-athletes for their combined work in the classroom and in collegiate competition. Student-Athlete of the Year and Sportsmanship award winners are chosen by the TLU Athletics staff.

Jurden is the school and SCAC record-holder for steals (160 currently) and for runs (169 currently). She is a career .434 hitter, and this year she is hitting .500 with 51 runs scored, 13 RBI, 47 steals, and on-base percentage of .608. The Bulldogs currently are 27-4 overall and won the SCAC regular-season with a perfect 18-0 record. The Bulldogs this week returned to No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division III Softball.

Green is a two-time All-American and a two-time SCAC Offensive Player of the Year. He is a five-time SCAC Player of the Week honoree, having received his fifth award on April 13. He is on a record goal-scoring pace, with 49 career goals in 48 career matches. That goals-per-match pace is the highest in school history. In just nine matches in this year’s shortened season, Green scored 11 goals and four assists.

Jurden is a senior academically and a redshirt junior athletically. She is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science and her master’s degree in data analytics. She currently holds a cumulative GPA of 3.970.

Long is a senior kinesiology/exercise science major. He is a four-year letter-winner in men’s soccer. Last year he became the 41st Academic All-American in school history, and he was a member of the 2019 SCAC Men’s Soccer Championship and NCAA-qualifying Men’s Soccer Team. He holds a 4.0 GPA.

Chassety Raines of Softball and Juan Ocampo of Football were named TLU Female and Male Junior-Year Student-Athletes of the Year, respectively.

As a true freshman in 2019, Raines was the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Division III National Championship, pitching a complete-game three-hitter as the Bulldogs won the national title. Also a starting outfielder, Raines holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a social innovation and social entrepreneurship major.

Ocampo is a three-time All-Conference selection and was an All-Region selection as a true freshman. This year he missed only one kick all season and was named First Team All-ASC for the second time. He currently holds a 3.750 cumulative GPA as a biochemistry major.
