Marion baseball claims 25th district title in program history
(Stockdale) – The Marion Bulldogs are district champions on the baseball diamond for the 25th time in school history after clinching the 26-3A title and top playoff seed Tuesday night with a 14-3 road win over Stockdale.

The Bulldogs are 9-0 in district play, 18-6 overall, and lead second-place Luling by four games in the loss column with only three left on the schedule.

Konner Harborth earned the win on the mound, allowing three unearned runs on three hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings.

Chance Lowery went 3-5 at the plate and scored five runs. Lowery, Jayden Williams, and Ty Blake each drove in two. Williams and Blake each had multi-hit games, and Williams scored two runs.

Jake Burris and Bryce Gonyer each drove in a run. Kallen Bek recorded a base hit and scored three times.

Marion plays host to Randolph in a district contest on Friday at 7 p.m.

Navarro softball clinches district title, top playoff seed with dominant win over Cuero
(Cuero) – Navarro softball locked up the championship and top playoff seed in District 27-4A on Tuesday with a 13-2 road win over Cuero.

The Panthers are 5-0 in district play, 19-6 overall, and own a three-game lead for first place over both La Vernia and Gonzales with only one game left on the schedule.

Sam Wegman logged the win in the pitcher’s circle. She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and struck out four in six innings.

Kaislyn Tovar drove in four runs, Sydni Stevens three. Bear Ortiz and Mary Gilliam each delivered two RBIs. Gilliam went 2-3, while Ortiz and Tovar each doubled.

Sam Mundine collected two hits, four runs scored, and two stolen bases. Melina Tabares recorded a base hit, scored twice, and stole two bases.

Navarro concludes the regular season on Friday with a 7 p.m. home game against Gonzales.

Seguin softball falls to Dripping Springs, Friday’s Senior Night game vs. Alamo Heights to air on KWED
(Seguin) – Seguin dropped back into a tie with Boerne-Champion for fourth place in the District 26-3A softball standings Tuesday night with a 16-1 road loss to Dripping Springs.

Champion beat Kerrville-Tivy 13-7 on Tuesday, so the Matadors (14-12) and Chargers have identical 9-6 district records and a 1-1 head-to-head split with one game left on the schedule.

Seguin can still clinch the fourth and final playoff seed in the district with a win over Alamo Heights on Friday and a Champion loss to Buda-Johnson.

If the Matadors and Chargers finish with the same district record, the teams could square off in a tiebreak game to determine the fourth playoff spot. If Seguin and Champion both win on Friday, they will part of a three-way tie for third with Buda-Johnson, who currently sits a game ahead of the Matadors and Chargers with a 10-5 district mark.

Layla Salazar, Taylor Springs, and Vanessa Sanchez had Seguin’s only hits in the loss to Dripping Springs. Springs drove in Salazar for the only run.

Alamo Heights enters Friday’s game against Seguin with a 1-13 district record and an overall mark of 6-19-1. The Matadors beat the Mules 14-2 earlier this season.

Seguin’s Senior Night game against Alamo Heights will air live on KWED 1580-AM and Seguintoday.com. Friday’s first pitch is slated for 6 p.m. Pre-game coverage starts at 5:50.

Canyon hands Seguin baseball road loss

(New Braunfels) – Seguin dropped out of contention for one of the four available playoff berths in District 26-5A with a 4-0 road loss to New Braunfels-Canyon on Tuesday.

Heston Osborne turned in a competitive effort on the mound to keep the Matadors in the game. Osborne allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out three in 5-2/3 innings.

Martin Ramirez doubled, while Cory Mazzurana, Julien Valdes, Osborne, and Alex Concepcion each singled for Seguin’s only other hits.

The Matadors are 2-11 in district play, 6-19-1 overall. Seguin hosts Boerne-Champion at ‘Smokey’ Joe Williams Field on Friday at 7 p.m.

Nall’s dominant outing sparks Navarro baseball to 11th straight win
(Gonzales) – Bryce Nall tossed a three-hitter and struck out eight to help the Panthers earn their 11th straight win with an 8-0 shutout in Gonzales on Tuesday.

Sam Muniga went 3-3 with three RBIs and a run scored to lead Navarro at the plate. Jaxen Monkerud went 3-4 and scored twice. Tristan Brashears and Aden Supak each collected two hits and an RBI.

Reece Rojas recorded two hits and scored once. Will Boswell drove in two runs. Mark Wozniak connected for an RBI double.

Navarro is 3-0 in District 27-4A, 22-3 overall. The Panthers look to complete the two-game series sweep of Gonzales on Friday when the teams square off in Geronimo at 5 p.m.

Nixon-Smiley denies Marion softball perfect district season
(Nixon) – Marion owns the championship trophy and top playoff seed in District 26-3A, but Nixon-Smiley’s 15-14 win on Tuesday prevented the Bulldogs from completing an undefeated run through the district schedule.

The loss leaves Marion with a 9-1 district record and an overall mark of 12-12-1.

The Bulldogs trailed 14-10 after six innings, rallied to tie it in the top of the seventh, and gave up the winning run to the Mustangs in the bottom of the frame.

Alyssa Robles went 3-5, drove in five runs, and scored twice. Jaslyne Williams doubled and tripled as part of a 4-4 outing with three runs scored and one RBI.

Lily Bek drove in two runs and scored twice. Kristina Miles went 2-4. She and Kira Jones each drove in a run.

Marion’s bi-district playoff details have yet to be determined, as Llano or Lago Vista could still end up being the No. 4 seed from District 25-3A.
