Marion athletes rack up regional qualifications in area track & field meet
(Converse) – Dillon Blakely took first place in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.66 seconds to pace a group of 10 Marion High School athletes who earned Region IV qualifications in six events last week at the District 25-26 3A Area Meet at Judson ISD’s Rutledge Stadium.
The boys 4×400 relay team of Aidan Rios, Chase Hallmark, Blakely, and Dominic Castellanos finished second with a time of 3:32.03.
Jacob Smith took second place in the boys 110 hurdles with a time of 16.18 seconds. Samuel Montoya finished fourth in that event (16.54) and third in the 300 meter hurdles (42.42).
Ronnie Winbush and Cooper Marr finished second and fourth, respectively, in the boys shot put. Winbush recorded a throw of 45-07, Marr 43-08.5.
Bode Walters finished third in the discus with a throw of 126-03.
Jaslyne Williams qualified for the Region IV meet in the girls 100-meter hurdles.
Navarro’s Haberle, girls 4×400 relay team qualify for Region IV track & field meet
(Wimberley) – Navarro High School’s Hunter Haberle finished second in the discus at the District 27-28 4A Area Track and Field meet last week to qualify for the Region IV meet, while the girls’ 4×400 relay team of Laylin Sturm, Zoe Carter, Mikala Caraway, and Vanessa Garcia took fourth to punch their regional tickets.
Haberle’s discus throw covered 130 feet, six inches.
Sturm, Carter, Caraway, and Garcia posted a time of 4:15.77 in the 4×200 relay.
Garcia also finished fourth in the 400 meters to qualify for regional competition.
The 4A Region IV track and field meet is this weekend at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
