(Seguin) – The Texas Lutheran women’s basketball team opened its home schedule with a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference losses to Trinity last week, 78-52 on Friday and 69-56 on Saturday.
Trinity opened a 43-21 lead by the half on Friday, and the Bulldogs never threatened in the second half.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the game was the first home contest for any TLU sport since March 14, 2020 when TLU hosted a softball doubleheader with Trinity. The TLU basketball teams opened their seasons two weeks ago with road games at Centenary College (La.).
Trinity opened Friday’s game by shooting 69.2 percent in the first quarter. The Tigers concluded the first half with a shooting percentage of 61.5.
TLU went 8-for-23 and 0-for-4 from the three-point line in the first half.
Trinity led for all but six seconds in the game.
Emily Daniel led a balanced Trinity scoring night. The senior guard hit six of her seven shots and scored 13 points.
Ashlyn Milton and Jordan Rudd each scored 12 for the Tigers.
Abby Hroch, TLU’s senior post, scored 14 and pulled down four rebounds. Tanyse Moehrig was the only other Bulldog in double-figures. The freshman post from Smithson Valley scored 10 and pulled down eight rebounds.
The two wins moved Trinity to 4-2 overall and to 4-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
TLU fell to 2-2 overall and to 2-2 in the SCAC.
In Saturday’s game, Trinity’s Ashlyn Milton scored 18 points in 25 minutes of action. She made six of her eight shots and four of her six shots from the three-point line. She added five rebounds and two assists.
Jordan Rudd, Trinity’s senior point guard, contributed 12 points, six assists and four steals. Maggie Shipley and Kelly Simmons scored 11 and 10, respectively. Simmons recorded four blocks and six rebounds.
TLU received 13 points from Abby Hroch. The senior post added nine rebounds, four steals, and two assists.
Jayla Santa Maria and Tara Molina scored 11 and 10, respectively. Molina dished out four assists and grabbed five rebounds.
TLU shot 37.9 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the arc.
The Bulldogs head to Georgetown, Texas for next Friday and Saturday’s games with Southwestern University. The Friday game begins at 5 p.m., and the Saturday contest is set for a 1 p.m. start.
