(Seguin) – Both Seguin High School basketball teams suffered lopsided losses to Boerne-Champion in District 26-5A on Monday, with the girls coming up short 64-27 and the boys falling 83-22.
Reese Brittain scored 10 points to lead the Matadors in the girls game. Taylor Bode and Ashlie Aguilar added six points apiece, Tresalyn Roberts finished with four, and Ashley Lingueno hit a free throw.
Champion jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the first quarter and extended the margin to 33-9 by halftime.
The loss drops the Seguin girls to 2-4 in district play, 5-9 overall. The next district game is Jan. 2, 6:30 p.m. at Goldie Harris Gym against Dripping Springs.
The Seguin boys were unable to recover from a 35-9 deficit against Champion. Michael Cornelius scored nine points to lead the Mats, Xander Harrell added seven, Jacob Andrade three, John Aguilar two, and Louis Flores one.
Seguin is 0-3 in district play, 2-8 on the season. The Matadors continue the 26-5A schedule with a 2 p.m. visit to Dripping Springs on Jan. 2.
