Luminarias light the way this holiday season in downtown Seguin

Seguin Conservation Society holds luminaria, raffle fundraiser

(Seguin) — The Seguin Conversation Society is giving you an opportunity to support its final and only fundraisers of 2020. Steve Tschoepe, of the Seguin Conservation Society, says this week is the final week to purchase your tickets for the group’s holiday raffle. He says many great items have been pulled together to create three Seguin gift baskets.

“We have three fantastic baskets that have been put together by our board members who have bought and sought out donations and they are all Seguin products. We have pecans. We have gift certificates. We have t-shirts. We have glasses. We have mugs. We have Seguin coffee. We have a variety of things in these baskets and they are all three very interesting,” said Tschoepe.

Tickets for the raffle are $2 each or six for $10.

In addition to its raffle, Tschoepe says several luminarias are also available for purchase. He says the luminarias all month long have been lighting up Seguin Conservation Society properties around town.

“The luminaria project started out after we kind of realized that we couldn’t have our Tour of Homes this year due to the COVID situation and we were brainstorming with ideas and we kind of thought, at the time, for people to be out during the holidays and look at the decorations and see what is going on and we thought this was a good way to showcase Seguin’s history by having luminarias in front of our properties and kind of honor and remember and celebrate those who are important to us and to our community,” said Tschoepe.

Edith Lange, Janet Wolber and Carol Durben show off one of the three Seguin gift baskets and cutting boards being given away during the Seguin Conservation Society holiday raffle.

He says the luminarias will continue to be turned on every weekend in December. He says the properties make a great place to visit this holiday season.

“It’s just something different and we expect it now to become a tradition. We’ve had great feedback on the luminarias and we have them in front of our First Church, across the front of our Log Cabin, in front of the Doll House. Of course with the Texas Theatre, inside the theatre, we have kind of a Christmas tree luminaria and then we have our traditional Christmas tree in another window but we just want people to come by and see our beautiful landmarks and maybe take a picture in front of them too,” said Tschoepe.

Tschoepe says proceeds from the fundraisers go back to support the conversation and its historic properties.

“They are just $10 each and they can still do one. They will be lit this week and after Christmas,” said Tschoepe. “You can contact me personally at my cell phone 830-401-1971 or you can write them down and send a check to the Seguin Conservation Society P.O. 245 Seguin, Texas.”

Tschoepe says support from the community is needed more than ever and encourages folks to get their raffle tickets or luminarias as soon as possible.

“We always appreciate the community’s support. These really are the first fundraisers that we’ve had in 2020. We did not have a birthday party. Like at the Texas, we did not have a parade viewing. We didn’t have any events at the Texas pretty much all year. We ended up doing a few things but they were minimal attendance and we didn’t have our Mother, Daughter Tea. Other than, our membership contributing some funds, via the mail, we are struggling but surviving,” said Tschoepe.

Again, raffle tickets can be purchased from any conservation society member, at Gift & Gourmet or by calling Tschoepe at 830-401-1971. Tickets will be sold until noon Friday.  The drawing will be held later in the day via Facebook Live.
