Country Christmas at Big Red Barn

Free hoop shoot

Archbishop Patricio Flores Knights of Columbus Council 16748 will be sponsoring the annual KC Basketball Free Throw Competition on Saturday December 13th, 2025, at the St. James Catholic Church Gymnasium. Registration begins at 8 am and the competition will begin at 9 am. The event is open to boys and girls between the ages of 9 – 14. Native Plant Society meeting

We the People Food Drive extended

We the People-Central Texas is hosting a food drive through Dec. 22 to benefit the Christian Cupboard. KWED Christmas Angel Contest

KWED Radio will be hosting its annual Christmas Angel Contest, accepting letters now through 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, at the KWED studios at 609 E. Court St., offering families in Guadalupe County the chance to nominate themselves or someone they know to receive $500 cash this Christmas. The contest invites residents to submit a letter explaining why a family could use the assistance, with all entries required to include the nominator’s name, address, and phone number; the winning letter will be read live on air before Christmas and featured along with photos in the Seguin Daily News, and entries may also be submitted anytime through the studio’s front-door drop slot.

Snowflake Class

Seguin Art League will be hosting its Snowflake Class from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Seguin Art League Gallery located at 104 S. Austin St. in Seguin. Instructor Ellen Craine will teach participants how to create intricate paper snowflakes using fine paper and advanced cutting techniques. 32nd Annual Holiday Home Tour

The Seguin Conservation Society will be hosting the 32nd Annual Holiday Home Tour from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, at eight historic sites across Seguin. The self-guided tour features grand homes from the late 1800s, craftsman bungalows, the Sebastopol House limecrete structure, and the restored Texas Theatre. The Faith Lutheran Church will be hosting a Drive Through Living Nativity at 5:30 p.m. on December 20 at 1326 E. Geronimo Lions Club First Friday Feast

The Geronimo Lions Club will not host its First Friday Feast in December. The event will return on January 2, 2026, with NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) as the beneficiary and entertainment provided by the Wyatt & Bill Show.

Navarro ISD High School Dedication

Navarro ISD invites the community to the dedication of the new Navarro High School on Monday, January 12 in Geronimo. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., with the student-led ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The event includes performances, remarks, a reception, and guided campus tours.

2026 Beef Cattle Short Course

Texas A&M AgriLife will be hosting the 2026 Beef Cattle Short Course at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Palo Alto College’s Ozuna Library. Chess Tournament at the Seguin Public Library
The Seguin Public Library will host a small, informal chess tournament open to all ages, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 10 a.m. The event will feature a Swiss-style format with four rounds and is expected to last about two hours. The tournament is unrated and beginner-friendly, but participants should be familiar with the basic rules and moves of chess. The library will provide chess boards and clocks, though participants are welcome to bring their own. There will be five-minute breaks between rounds, with snacks provided. Efforts will be made to match players by age group, but some mixing may occur in later rounds depending on attendance. Special prizes will be awarded, including 3-D printed trophies for first and second place in each age group: Kids (6–11), Teens (12–17), and Adults (18 and up). Registration opens January 1, 2026, and this program is free and open to the public. C.A.S.T. for Kids at Irma Lewis Outdoor Learning Center

The City of Seguin will be hosting the reopened Business Improvement Grant (BIG) Program following the approval of additional funding. The grant offers up to 75 percent reimbursement, with a maximum of $10,000, for qualifying business improvements such as façade upgrades, signage, and equipment additions. CCSCT Utility Assistance Application for 2024

Applications are available for the Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (C.E.A.P.) provided by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs through the CCSCT.  The program will help low-income consumers reduce their utility bills. There is also assistance available through the Low Income Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP). Volunteer Van Drivers Needed

Guadalupe County Veteran Services Office is in great need of volunteer van drivers. Even those who can only commit to one day per month. Volunteers will drive local veterans who have no transportation to their VA medical appointments in San Antonio. To volunteer, call 830-303-4188 ext. 1249.

Free Accredited Adult Homeschool Program

The Life Changing Church is now offering a Free Accredited Homeschool Program for adults wanting to earn their high school diploma. It is a self-paced, no classes to attend program. You work around your schedule and at the end of the program you will receive an accredited diploma that is acceptable for college. Tutors are available at no charge. Salvation Army Office 

The Seguin Unit Salvation Army office is located at 205 North King Street. The office is open to receive requests for assistance weekly from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Volunteers Needed

The Guadalupe Valley Young Marines need volunteers. They promote a healthy, drug-free program and need males, 19 years and up who would like to see the program grow by contributing time to help future citizens, boys and girls 8 to 18. La Trinidad Blessing Box – Food Pantry
