(Geronimo) – The Navarro High School football team’s Aug. 28 season opener against Port Lavaca-Calhoun and pre-season scrimmage against Devine this Thursday have been cancelled due to a number of Navarro ISD students and staff members testing positive for COVID-19.
The positive test count was 18 – ten staff members and eight students – as of late Friday.
Navarro ISD has suspended football until Aug. 24. Teams will not practice between now and then or participate in the scrimmages scheduled for the end of this week. Devine has already rescheduled its scrimmage to face Gonzales this Thursday.
The Panthers will now open the season Friday, Sept. 4 with a 7:30 p.m. road game against La Vernia.
Barring unforeseen schedule changes, Navarro’s first three regular season games against La Vernia, Needville, and Cuero will air live on KWED 1580-AM and Seguintoday.com.
