Seguin ISD adds schools to meal curbside service

Seguin ISD adds schools to meal curbside service

(Seguin) — Two more schools have been added to the list of Seguin ISD campuses serving as host sites for breakfast and lunch meals.

With schools extending their closure, Seguin ISD Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez says the nutrition department has also expanded the locations for kids to get a free meal each weekday.

“We added two more sites — Jefferson Elementary School and Ball Early Childhood where we would be providing meals for both breakfast and lunch. We really want to  encourage our parents and guardians to consider coming to one of our sites for meals. I know that there is unexpected circumstances and now having to ensure that we are taking care of our children at home and one of the things that we can do to ease that burden is to provide meals but also for our families who are in need to provide meals both breakfast and lunch. So, I want to encourage our community to consider that. I also want to add that your students do not have to be with you in the vehicle so we feel that that is important for everyone to know,” said Gutierrez.

Dr. Gutierrez says assistance is also available for those families who feel they need a little more help than just the daily meals.

“In addition, we also have what we call backpack foods and if you go through the line and express that you would like a backpack meal or two or three that we are also offering that for families that need dinner or weekend food. We are really trying to do everything we can to support our community during this crisis and it’s our hope that this passes soon but there are no guarantees and so until things change, we are going to continue to put into place efforts to support our students in ensuring they have access to food,” said Gutierrez.

In addition to Jefferson and Ball, meals can also be picked up in the parking lots of Koennecke, McQueeney and Rodriguez Elementary Schools plus Seguin High School. The curb site pick up will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. for breakfast followed by lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Like Seguin, Navarro ISD will also continue to offer up curbside meals. The free curbside meals will be served each day this week at the Navarro Intermediate Cafeteria. Meals will be distributed on the west side of the cafeteria.

The to go meals will be available from 11 a.m.to 12:30 p.m. each day. Each meal will include lunch and a next day breakfast.

Navarro ISD will issue meals to any Navarro student that is 18 years and younger. Adults that are accompanying children must have their child present in order to receive a meal.
