(Seguin) — The run on items like toliet paper, bleach products and hand sanitizer has been well documented since the federal government started encouraging more and more people to stay at home in an attempt to blunt the spread of the current strain of coronavirus.
Many folks may have felt like stockpiling Clorox bleach, Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer was a good idea, but if they’ve got more than they need, then that means they’re keeping it from others in the community, which also means they’re potentially making it less say for everyone, including themselves.
The local medical community is encouraging those with a surplus of these cleaning supplies to share them with local clinics, so that they can be kept safe and virus-free for those who need care.
There’s not cause for panic, but it would be helpful if those items can be shared so that they can be redistributed to physicians who need these supplies.
The Guadalupe Healthcare Network at GRMC is taking the lead on the collection and redistribution effort. They are looking for people who have extra unused and sealed masks, gloves, chlorine bleach, chlorine bleach wipes, and hand sanitizer. These, again, should all be new unused items that were likely purchased by people who felt like the needed to stockpile them when the supplies were more readily available. You do not need to keep those items stockpiled, and sharing them now could help keep the overall community protected.
Deana Henk, of the Guadalupe Healthcare Network, says “our supply chain is challenged while patient volume is high. This is not a panic request, just trying to help those in need over the next month. It’s hard for some to get supplies since the stores are ‘cleaned out.”‘
Henk says if you have a surplus ask your doctor’s office if they are in need and then make a drop off. She says nursing homes are also in need of some of these items.
