Routine traffic stop nets major drug bust


(Seguin) — A San Marcos man has been turned over to the U.S. Marshals after being found with thousands of dollars worth of drugs in a local neighborhood. Seguin Police officials say Roberto Lopez, 28, was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a traffic stop in the 2400 block of N. Guadalupe St.

Officials say during the traffic stop, officers conducted a search of his vehicle and located more than five kilos of methamphetamine. A 45 caliber handgun was also recovered from the blue 2016 Ford F-250. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is more than $70,000. Subsequently, Lopez was arrested and currently faces federal charges.

Seguin Police Chief Terry Nichols stated, “This is a great example of the proactive policing our officers do every day. We are thankful we were able to prevent these drugs from making it to the streets of our community.”
