Today marks deadline to ensure delivery of Thanksgiving meal to homebound

(Seguin) — Do you know someone who can benefit from a warm Thanksgiving meal this Wednesday? Today is the deadline to have a turkey meal delivered to your home by members of the 2020 Confirmation Class of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Mission Catholic Church in Redwood.

For years, the churches and its confirmation students have hosted the community wide Thanksgiving Dinner for the elderly, homebound, needy and just anyone wishing for a meal.

Gloria Reyna, the director of religious education at OLG, says although residents can come by on Wednesday and enjoy the meal in the church parish hall, the group by the end of today is also needing to secure the number of delivered plates for all those who need them.

“We have to then figure out what direction we are going to be taking and we have to get that mapped out for the ones who are going to deliver and they can call between eight and 12 (noon) and 1 to about 6 o’clock,” said Reyna.

Reyna says the number of plates needing to be delivered continues to grow. Reyna says there’s definitely a need throughout the community.

“We do deliver and I know last year, we delivered about 250 plates,” said Reyna.

Again the deadline to ensure a plate delivery is today. Reyna says even if you don’t need a plate, you just might know someone who does.

“Sometimes you can see that your neighbor may be somebody who is having difficulty moving around or getting out or you know that someone is ill and they may not be able to have a Thanksgiving dinner and we will have a hot meal for them along with a dessert and it’s a well served plate so anyone who knows someone else that needs a plate delivered, we’ll take that information as well in the office,” said Reyna.

The OLG Thanksgiving Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the OLG Parish Center. Delivery plates can be requested by calling 830-379-2818.
