(Seguin) — Get ready to “party with a purpose.” Tickets are now available for this year’s Summer Phling fundraiser. Hosting the event is the Parrot Head Club of Seguin. The event is scheduled for Saturday night at the McQueeney Lions Club.
Chairwoman Toni Winters, says the local Parrot Head Club is part of a larger organization which works to support local communities.
“Seguin Parrot Head Club is a sanctioned club. A Parrot Head is a follower of Jimmy Buffet, the singer, his music and his lifestyle. We are a fun group. We get together socially and have parties and backyard concerts and go tubing and we raise money. You have to give back to the community. Jimmy Buffet’s motto is ‘party with a purpose’ and so this is our party. This is our fundraiser. We are having music and food and drinks and a silent auction and a live auction since a lot of people donate and we are very excited. Everyone comes and dances and sings and eats and drinks and has fun. It’s open to everyone,” said Winters.
Winters each year, the group is able to fund even more and more groups and again, all while having a good time.
“All the money that we raise goes back to the community. Last year, we gave out $27,000 — that we raised in one year and most of it, we raised at our fundraiser that we are having this next Saturday. We raised most of our money the night of our event,” said Winters.
Money raised last was distributed to 17 non-profits in both Seguin and New Braunfels. Winters says the event is a t-shirt, flip flop type of event and looks forward to another successful party.
“We have Werner’s catering out of Shiner, Texas and they have excellent food. We got top ratings last year for hooking up with Werner’s and they are catering again this year. We’ve got cut meats and cheeses and shrimp and kind of a tropical theme to it. It’s kind of stationed where there is a station of meat here and a station of shrimp here and there are different stations. Everybody raved about the food last year. We do have drinks. So with your ticket, you can come in and have drinks with us and we have Jerry Diaz and Hannah’s Reef is the band and they play Jimmy Buffet music and tropical fun music and we do the conga line and just have a great time,” said Winters.
The Summer Phling will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the McQueeney Lions Club. Tickets are $45 in advance. A limited number of $50 tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce office, Gift & Gourmet or from any Parrot Head Club member including Winters at 830-305-4891.
