SEGUIN, Texas — The Texas Lutheran Athletic Department is heartbroken over the loss of A’Jean Augustine and Deyreck Dean, who passed away tragically in a single car accident early Monday morning.

Augustine, a junior from Houston, was in his third season with the Bulldogs and served as the Bulldogs kickoff specialist in 2026. He played in 16 games in his career, making ten field goals and accounting for 78 points over his three seasons with the Bulldogs. Augustine was a graduate of Lamar High School.

Dean, a Rockwall native and Rockwall High alum, was a member of the TLU football team as a linebacker from 2022-25. Dean played in 26 games over his four seasons with the Bulldogs, making 64 tackles and was a member of the SCAC Academic Honor Roll.

Both athletes were members of the 2024 and 2025 SCAC Championship football teams.

We ask to respect the privacies of both families at this time.

“We are heartbroken by this tragic event,” said head coach Neal LaHue. “Our love and prayers go out to AJ and Deyreck, and their families.”

Texas Lutheran University released this statement on Monday, “The Texas Lutheran University community has lost two students in a car accident which occurred off campus in the early morning hours of November 2. Junior A’Jean (AJ) Augustine of Houston and senior Deyreck Dean of Rockwall, both student-athletes, were beloved members of our community and we will long feel the impact of their loss.”

An on-campus memorial service will be held Thursday morning. TLU Athletics is making counseling resources available to student-athletes and staff to assist during this time of unimaginable loss.
