(Seguin) — More than 52,000 Guadalupe County residents have already cast their ballots ahead of Tuesday’s Nov. 3 General Election. Early voting officially wrapped up Friday, Oct. 30.
A total of 52,747 ballots were cast during the two week early voting period. The last day of early voting, Oct. 30, pulled in the most voters with 5,646 votes cast.
Tuesday’s ballot includes a mix of local, county, state and congressional races, along with a school district tax proposition. Voters are reminded that not every race or proposition will appear on every ballot. The contests voters see will depend on where they live.
At the statewide level, Texans will decide several major offices, including governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and a seat in the U.S. Senate.
The governor’s race features Republican incumbent Greg Abbott and Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa. The lieutenant governor’s race pits longtime Republican incumbent Dan Patrick against Democrat Vikki Goodwin.
The U.S. Senate contest features Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico.
Guadalupe County voters will also help decide the newly redrawn 35th Congressional District race between Republican Carlos De La Cruz and Democrat Johnny Garcia.
Closer to home, the Texas House District 44 race features Republican incumbent Alan Schoolcraft and Democratic challenger Eric Norman.
Several local races and decisions will also be on the ballot.
Seguin ISD voters will decide Proposition A, a Voter-Approval Tax Ratification Election, better known as a VATRE. The proposal which will not raise taxes would shift two cents from the district’s debt service tax rate to its maintenance and operations tax rate — providing additional funding to the district.
Navarro ISD voters will also select four school board members from a field of five candidates. Those candidates include Jared Gallini, Noah Webster, Kristen Green, Hillarie Forister and Incumbent Dan Reinhard.
In the city of Seguin, voters living in City Council District 5 will choose between Candidates Chris Aviles and Forrest Fletcher.
There is also a contested race for Place 2 on the Guadalupe Appraisal District Board of Directors, featuring Peggy Herman and Charles Kelm.
Voters are encouraged to review their sample ballots before heading to the polls.
Polls will be open Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
