(Seguin) – A local family is inviting residents to bring their creativity to downtown Seguin this Friday night. The Camacho Family, led by local Artist Jeremiah Camacho, will be hosting a free Community Paint Day.
The event is scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. in downtown Seguin next to the Central Park fountain. Camacho, who also owns Lions Den Art Collective, says the gathering is designed to give people an opportunity to relax, create art and connect with others while enjoying an evening away from their screens.
You can do one thing and want and you can do another thing and actually do. And my thing is just do it. I’m like, I’m painting all the time. If I’m not tattooing at my studio, I tend to come home and work on paintings and my kids will work with me on different pieces. So it’s like if I’m already gonna do it and if I’m gonna do it with my kids, I’m like, well, let’s just go out and invite other people. Who knows who else might wanna come out and paint with us and just relax and paint, do something different. Put down the iPads,” said Camacho.
The event is open to everyone, regardless of artistic experience. Plus, Camacho says supplies will be available for those who need them.
“When I first started, it was just going to be me and my little ones. I have a whole bunch of paint and other little stuff that I could take, in case, someone didn’t have any stuff. But friends of mine from the Artable Curiosities, they heard about it and they’re like, ‘we want to be there and we can help out. We have a whole bunch of stuff.’ So if people don’t have stuff, we have it there and we’ll be able to supply stuff if you don’t have anything. But you don’t really need anything. I mean for my little ones, we’re going to be doing some wood cutouts. So they’re going to have like a piece of wood that they’re going to be cutting out. So it’s not necessary that you have to have a big canvas and an easel and everything that looks all nice. You can really paint on anything and everything. I mean, I’ll have my radio and we’ll just kind of have some real chill music and just relax and enjoy the nice weather that (be grateful that) we’re not in triple digits right now, “ said Camacho.
Camacho says the event is simply bringing more art to Seguin.
“Hopefully, this can be the first of many, and the next time, I can try to get some other friends of mine, like some really good artists to kind of work on some pieces. I did a First Friday in New Braunfels not too long ago, and that kind of sparked my interest. I’m like, we need something like that. Downtown is perfect for that. So if we had a whole bunch of different artists, you know, out there, I’m like, I love watching people paint, so I’m sure other people would love to see, other artists that I look up to paint. You can sit there and ask questions and just watch the process,” said Camacho.
Participants are reminded to bring their snacks, a chair and again, their own painting supplies if they have them.
