Car show, pet costume contest among Fall Festival events

(Seguin) — Calling all car enthusiasts and pet owners.

Here’s your heads-up about this weekend’s Seguin Fall Festival, which will include both a downtown car show and pet costume contest.

The third annual Seguin Fall Festival is set for Saturday in downtown Seguin.

Patrick Pinder, Guadalupe County emergency management coordinator and fire marshal, says the festival was started three years ago to help support local fire departments that rely on community fundraising.

He says leading the charge of this year’s car show will be the Marion Volunteer Fire Department.

“We have numerous trophies for that. We do encourage folks to sign up ahead of time so it makes registration go a little bit smoother. Marion Volunteer Fire Department has stepped up this year and they’re going to coordinate and kind of handle the car show. So anybody that wants to participate in the car show that has not registered, you can register the day of the show. We are encouraging you to come out. You’ll need to enter off of Washington Street through the Wells Fargo Bank parking lot. That is the only entrance for the car show participants just for reasons. There’s a check-in booth on South Austin Street that you’ll be able to go to.

The car show will run from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Awards will be announced at approximately 4 p.m. The entry fee is $30.

Pinder says pet owners are also invited to dress up their four-legged companions and enter the festival’s pet costume contest.

“Any pets are allowed to come. Registration starts at 1:30 and the actual proceeds from that are going to go back to the Seguin Snip Squad. So we partnered with them this year since it’s a pet event. We’re actually going to donate all the proceeds from that actual contest straight to them. So we’re encouraging folks to come out, sign up, bring your pets, put them in a costume. There are some awards that will be given out. We want people to come out and participate in that because the funds that are generated from that do go back to the community,” said Pinder.

Again, registration for the pet show begins at 1:30 p.m. near the gazebo. Judging will follow at 1:45 p.m. with awards at 2 p.m.

Pinder says the car show and pet costume contest are part of a full day of activities that day. He says the event also includes food and craft vendors, children’s attractions, student performances and live music.

There is no cost to attend the Seguin Fall Festival. A $20 wristband, however, will be offered for all-day access to the Kids Zone. This includes bounce houses, an obstacle course, a mechanical bull, a petting zoo, rides, and face painting.

Drivers are also reminded that South Austin Street will be closed for the downtown event. Austin from Court to Washington Streets will be closed off to traffic.

The Fall Festival begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 9 p.m. Saturday.
