SEGUIN, Texas — The Texas Lutheran women’s soccer team suffered their first loss of the season, a 5-1 loss to Hardin-Simmons at Gustafson Field on Wednesday.
The Cowgirls took control of the match and never let up, scoring three times in the first half and two times in the second. Freshman midfielder Alejandra Lopez (El Paso/Eastwood) put Texas Lutheran (6-1) on the board in the 68th minute to cut the lead to 3-1, but HSU added two more tallies to walk away with the 5-1 win.
Hardin-Simmons led in every statistical category, including 23-9 in shots, 10-6 in shots on goal, and 4-2 in corner kicks. Lopez led the offense with her second goal of the season, while sophomore Madison Herrera (San Antonio/Madison) was credited on the assist on the goal, her second of the season. It is the fourth straight match Herrera has tallied a point. Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) and Alexis Morrison (Cedar Park/Vista Ridge) notched two saves each in the loss.
With the loss, Texas Lutheran’s undefeated home streak that dated back to September 2024 comes to an end. Texas Lutheran was 16-0-1 at Gustafson Field over that period.
Texas Lutheran will have a quick turnaround as they look to respond against the rival Trinity Tigers on Friday, September 25 at 7:30 PM at Gustafson Field. The match will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
