(New Braunfels) — Two men are behind bars in the Guadalupe County Jail following a fatal head-on crash Saturday night in New Braunfels that left a 27-year-old man dead, and a 3-year-old child injured.
The New Braunfels Police Department says the crash involving a pickup truck and sedan was reported at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday in the 2500 block of FM 725.
Officials say the 27-year-old driver of the sedan, who was from New Braunfels, died as a result of the crash. A 3-year-old child who was a passenger in the sedan sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to University Hospital in San Antonio.
Police identified the driver of the pickup truck as 25-year-old Rafael Alejandro Arreguin-Ramirez, of Mexico. Authorities say Arreguin-Ramirez showed signs of intoxication at the scene.
He was transported to CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital-New Braunfels, where police obtained a blood search warrant, before he was taken to the Guadalupe County Jail. He is charged with intoxication manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Meanwhile, police say the passenger in the pickup truck fled the crash scene on foot and ran into a nearby neighborhood.
Officers later located the man identified as 23-year-old Alejandro Aguillen Acosta, of Mexico, hiding in a garage.
Acosta was later booked into the Guadalupe County Jail and charged with evading arrest or detention and criminal trespass of a habitation.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police say additional charges could be filed.
