(Seguin) — The Seguin community is invited to remember, reflect and honor those lost during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
A memorial ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks will be held at 8:45 a.m. this Friday, Sept. 11, in Central Park.
Over the years, the ceremony has been hosted outside of Seguin’s Central Fire Station and/or the Seguin Police Department.
However this year, Jennifer Sourdellia, the public information officer for the city of Seguin, says the ceremony is being moved downtown so that more of the community can join together.
“It is going to be a bit different because as 25 years ago on September 11th, back in 2001, where this tragedy unfolded and we lost so many lives. So, this is going to be signifying that. And because of that reason, we’re going to have it downtown so more people can attend. There’s more places for people to park and to sit. And then also our friends from Guadalupe County and the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office are also going to be participating this year with along with us,” said Sourdellia.
The September 11 attacks which claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people is said to have forever changed the nation. Now 25 years later, Sourdellia says the annual ceremony works to remember how each of our lives were impacted by that day.
“All are welcome to come, to remember, to reflect. We will never forget that day in our history and we invite everyone to come out and join us for this event,” said Sourdellia.
Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged.
