(Seguin) — A wanted landlord has finally been apprehended.
Investigators say 64-year-old James Sterling Waugh was arrested just before 8 a.m. Tuesday on warrants connected to Sunday’s assault on a Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Waugh, had broken into a tenant’s residence while she was away. Upon arrival, officials say a deputy saw a man he knew to be Waugh walking away from the home. When the deputy confronted him, Waugh ran into the residence.
While the deputy tried to take the landlord into custody, they say 55-year-old Toya Robinson of New Braunfels, interfered and also began assaulting the deputy.
They say as Waugh attempted to take away the deputy’s Taser, Robinson was trying to choke the deputy with the cord from his radio.
After the deputy successfully freed himself. Waugh fled the scene.
Waugh had been the subject of a search in the Ridge Road area. A Regional Emergency Alert Network (REAN) notification was sent to residents living in that area Sunday night and early Monday morning.
The deputy was taken to Resolute Hospital and released with minor injuries.
Robinson was arrested for aggravated assault on a public servant and interference with public duties.
Waugh faces charges for disarming of a peace officer, resisting arrest, and evading arrest or detention.
Officials say investigation into the incident continues.
