(Seguin) — Faith Lutheran Church is inviting the entire Seguin community over this Sunday. The congregation will be celebrating a 60 year milestone — a milestone marking six decades of faith, fellowship and service.
Senior Pastor Jeremy Pedersen says the 60th anniversary is more than a celebration of the church’s history.
“It’s a milestone because it’s 60 years of God’s faithfulness. This church started as a vision to reach families here in Seguin, and that’s why they planted the church right across from the high school. Sixty years later, we’re continuing that vision to share the good news, to share God’s love to all the families and to people here in this community,” said Pedersen.
The day begins with a special worship service at 9 a.m., followed by a special anniversary program.
Pedersen says the congregation hopes Sunday’s celebration will bring together current members, former members, friends and anyone in the community who wants to be part of the occasion.
“Certainly, we want to invite everyone. We’re going to have a special worship service at 9 a.m., and right after that we’ll have a group photo of our entire congregation. More importantly, after that we’re going to go to our gym and have some fellowship time, see some photos and, best of all, some of the men of our church are going to use our old barbecue pit. We’re actually going to have brisket and sausage and serve a meal with others,” said Pedersen.
Pedersen says Faith Lutheran’s connection to the Seguin “community remains at the heart of its mission,” just as it was when the church was founded in 1966.
“Back in 1966, they wanted to reach the young families, the families here in Seguin, to share the good news of the love of Jesus Christ. That continues to be our mission, especially with our students and the next generation — to share that God loves them, God cares for them and the promise that we have by our good Lord,” said Pedersen.
Pedersen says while the church and community around it have changed over the past six decades, its central mission has remained the same.
“Things change, but our good Lord does not change, and our Lord wants to reach and share His amazing love right here in Seguin. That’s where we feel our mission is — to continue to share the good news of Jesus Christ around Seguin, as it has for the past 60 years and for many years to come,” said Pedersen.
Church organizers encourage former members and anyone with memories or connections to Faith Lutheran to come reconnect, share stories and help celebrate the church’s six decades in Seguin.
