(Cibolo) – Residents will have an opportunity next week to learn more about a proposed data center project currently in the works over in Cibolo. The opportunity will also allow questions about its potential impact on the community.
Cibolo Place 3 Councilwoman Marissa-Ellen Patterson has been among the leaders taking a strong role in encouraging residents to attend the upcoming public meeting “as interest and concern surrounding the proposed development continues.” The proposed 243,000 square-foot, 50-megawatt data center will be located on a 39-acre plot at 1000 Bolton Road – the former San Antonio Karting Complex.
Patterson has been sharing information with residents through social media in an effort to provide additional background on the project, the city’s approval process and some of the questions being raised by members of the community.
As part of those efforts, Patterson recently shared a video presentation featuring Rick Vasquez, the City of Cibolo’s director of planning and economic development. The presentation addresses what a data center is, how the project’s approval process worked under the regulations in place at the time and the city’s plans moving forward regarding transparency and information.
In the videotaped council meeting being shared, Patterson explains the goal of the presentation.
“I know many residents have concerns about this project. I know it’s generated a lot of questions and different concerns within our community. So, I appreciate everyone who’s taken the time to ask questions, be engaged. My goal is to make sure that the public has accurate information, they understand the process that occurred and knows what council is doing moving forward to improve transparency. So, over the past few weeks, we’ve heard from residents, spent a lot of time gathering information, meeting with city staff, getting information from our utility. partners and I’m really just looking to separate the facts from speculation,” said Patterson.
She has also made additional documents available to residents, including a Data Center Entitlements & Resources presentation and a presentation from Green Valley Special Utility District.
The city’s data center materials “address a range of issues associated with the project, including its planning history, zoning and land use, site plan approvals, water and wastewater services, projected water use, electrical infrastructure and noise standards.”
The Green Valley SUD presentation “addresses the utility district’s responsibilities under Texas law, including its obligation to provide water and wastewater service within its certificated service area, as well as the limits of the utility district’s authority regarding development decisions.”

A town hall meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17. It will be followed by a special meeting at 9 p.m. at Steel High School Auditorium located at 1300 FM 1103.
