(Seguin) – A Seguin husband and wife were killed Thursday when their small airplane crashed near the Bogalusa Airport in southeastern Louisiana.

According to WWL-TV in Louisiana, the victims have been identified as 68-year-old William “Bill” Day and his wife, 69-year-old Tommie Day, both of Seguin.

The television station reports the Beech H35 aircraft crashed in a wooded area off airport property at approximately 10:48 a.m. Thursday. Firefighters reportedly had to cut through a locked gate to reach the crash site and extinguish the fire.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

WWL-TV reports that the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office says small aircraft frequently stop at the Bogalusa Airport for fuel, but it’s not yet known what led to Thursday’s crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board has taken over the investigation and will work to determine what caused the aircraft to go down.
