(Seguin) — Football fans can start making plans now. KWED has announced its 2027 high school football broadcast schedule, featuring some of the biggest games in South Central Texas.
The station’s 2026 broadcast schedule features every Seguin Matadors game, along with a pair of marquee matchups showcasing some of the area’s top programs.
The season kicks off on Friday, Aug. 28, when the Matadors host longtime rival New Braunfels in what is expected to be one of the area’s biggest opening-night games. The rivalry contest begins a challenging schedule for Seguin, which enters a new district this season filled with quality opponents and several tough road tests.
Among the district highlights is an Oct. 30 showdown with the back-to-back defending state champion Smithson Valley Rangers, a game expected to have major district implications.
In addition to following the Matadors throughout the season, KWED will also feature two special broadcasts spotlighting other outstanding area programs. On Sept. 18, the station will carry a matchup between Marion and Uvalde, while Navarro travels to Cuero on Oct. 23 in what is expected to be one of the premier games in the region.
KWED General Manager Darren Dunn says this year’s schedule offers fans an outstanding mix of rivalries, district races and championship-caliber football.
“Our goal has always been to bring our listeners the very best high school football in South Central Texas. From opening night against New Braunfels to the challenges of district play and our featured broadcasts involving Navarro and Marion, this is one of the strongest schedules we’ve ever assembled. We’re excited to share another season of Friday night football with our listeners.”
