(Seguin) — A popular 1980’s movie is being brought to the stage at the Texas Theatre, thanks to a large group of talented kids. The live-stage production of “9 to 5” is being presented by students participating in this year’s Camp Broadway.
Show Director Aidan Martinez says they had dozens of kids sign up for this year’s summer camp, and he thinks that audiences will be impressed with this year’s show.
“Camp Broadway is a yearly theater camp that we do at the Texas Theatre here in Seguin. We’ve been doing it since I started as a camper, actually, and now I’m a show director. This is my eighth year directing Camp Broadway shows. It’s just the way that we get to help Seguin grow in the arts and help establish these young thespians,” said Martinez.
Martinez says it takes a lot of hard work to bring all of this together. The kids basically have less than two weeks to pull all of this together, so that it can be performed for the public.
“It takes us a good minute to get into the rhythm of rehearsals and directing and delegating, but once we get our flow, everything just works out so perfectly. And I’m grateful that we, after doing this for so many years, have found our flow and our rhythm,” said Martinez.
Cast member Caylee Dwyer, who plays the role made famous by Dolly Parton, says she hopes everyone comes out to see them perform this exciting musical. Dwyer, who never seems to get out of character, says audiences will enjoy this performance.
“You want to come to the theater and you want to see our amazing show, that took us only two weeks. It was only two weeks. And we put in so much effort so you would enjoy our show. And I want you to come to our show so you can come into the theater and then you can just embrace the magic of what being a thespian is and embrace everything that we have worked hard for. So you can just come into the world, Dolly’s world of 9 to 5, and you can just soak in all of the wonderful magic that we have for you,” said Dwyer.
The Junior version of “9 to 5” musical, which removes some of the adult themes from the movie, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets to the show are now available through the Texas Theatre’s website, at thetexas.org.
