Community suffers loss of another local student

(Seguin) -A former Seguin High School graduate and current Texas Lutheran University student was killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision in Wilson County. This marks the third death of a TLU student who has died in a vehicle accident in the past week.

Staff Sergeant Orlando De Luna Jr., with the Texas Department of Public Safety, says Joseph Angel Sanchez Jr., 25, of Stockdale, was the driver and sole occupant of a white 2005 Ford Focus traveling southbound on SH 123 when it was struck head-on by a northbound 2024 black Lexus passenger car. The accident was reported at 4 p.m. Tuesday,

DPS investigators say the Lexus was traveling on the wrong side of the roadway when the collision occurred.

The driver of the Lexus, an 18-year-old male, was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center with injuries. His name has not been released.

Sanchez was a 2019 graduate of Seguin High School and was attending Texas Lutheran University, where he was studying psychology.

Sanchez’s death comes just days after the TLU community lost two other students in an overnight crash.

Junior A’Jean “A.J”. Augustine,20, of Houston and senior Deyreck Dean, 23, of Rockwall, both student-athletes, were killed in an off-campus accident during the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 2.

The university held a memorial service honoring Augustine and Dean on Thursday, November 5 at Jackson Auditorium.

A memorial service celebrating Sanchez’s life will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of the Abiding Presence at Texas Lutheran University.
