Guadalupe County facilities shine green in honor of veterans

(Guadalupe County) —  This Veteran’s Day, Guadalupe County is asking residents to think green.

Guadalupe County will once again take part in Operation Green Light for Veterans. The county is currently illuminating several county facilities in green now through Nov. 11 in recognition of Veterans Day.

The nationwide initiative, led by the National Association of Counties, is designed to bring communities together to recognize veterans, raise awareness of the challenges they face and highlight the resources available to them and their families.

County facilities participating in the effort include the historic Guadalupe County Courthouse, Veterans Outreach Center, Elections Administration Office, Development Center and Schertz Service Center.

Residents and local businesses are also encouraged to join the effort by displaying a green light on their porches or at their places of business during the weeklong observance.

County officials say the effort also highlights the importance of making sure veterans have access to the services and benefits they have earned through their military service.

In 2025, a total of 21,352 Guadalupe County veterans accessed Veterans Administration benefits and resources, including compensation, pensions, education and vocational rehabilitation services.

Those programs they say help veterans and their families secure housing, pursue higher education, launch careers and maintain their overall well-being.

County officials are also encouraging residents to attend local Veterans Day events and take time to recognize veterans and their families for their service and sacrifices.

The Veterans Outreach Center will continue the celebration with a free Chili Pachanga Cook-off on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 205 E. Weinert St. in Seguin.

The event will feature veterans and first responders competing with their favorite chili recipes. Twelve agencies will be offering free samples, and attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the Chili Pachanga prize winner.

The observance of Veterans Day will also continue throughout the community with the annual Veterans Day Ceremony  slated for Nov. 11.
