Guadalupe County bulk cleanup set for Saturday

(Seguin) — Guadalupe County residents will have one more opportunity this year to clear out unwanted household items and yard debris during this weekend’s free bulk cleanup event.

The event will run from  7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Guadalupe County Road and Bridge Department located just south of the Guadalupe County Jail.

Carmen Davila, the public information officer for Guadalupe County, says all participating residents must bring a photo ID or utility bill to utilize the service.

“The county bulk cleanup event is a time for residents to look around their yards and their homes and dispose of any unwanted items to help maintain a clean and safe environment,” said Davila.

Davila says residents should pay special attention to the entrance route.Vehicles must enter from North Austin Street and turn onto North Guadalupe Street, about a half-mile north of Interstate 10 in Seguin. From there, drivers will follow the designated route into the Road and Bridge yard, where county employees will be on hand to help unload the items.

Davila says separating materials before arriving will also help keep traffic moving — making the process easier for everyone.

“If people have tires, if they could keep those together, there is a limit of four tires, without rims, 19.5 inches,” said Davila. “And keep that away from like the metal and the other debris.”

Accepted household items include but not limited to trash, furniture, appliances, scrap metal, dry paint and bagged yard waste.

Tires can also be disposed but must be smaller than 19.5 inches, without rims. Tires are limited to four per vehicle. Refrigerators and freezers must be empty with Freon removed. Ceramic toilets should also be placed in cardboard boxes.

Items not accepted include hazardous materials, batteries, brush and limbs, fencing, construction debris, oil-based paint and junk vehicles. Dump trailers are prohibited, and trailers cannot exceed 12 feet.

Residents can review the full list of accepted and prohibited materials at GuadalupeTX.gov.
