Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

Seguin Connections Shine on College Football Stage

(undated) — Players with ties to Seguin made their mark on the college football field over the weekend.

Former Matador Corey Dailey made his first start at quarterback for Pitt in a 27–21 loss to Boston College. The true freshman threw a touchdown pass on the game’s first play, but the Panthers’ offense cooled off after that. Dailey finished 11 of 25 for 193 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also rushed four times for nine yards.

Former Seguin football and track standout Nik Henry showed his versatility for UTEP. Henry scored on an eight-yard run, caught two passes for 26 yards and returned a kickoff 21 yards. The Miners fell to San Jose State, 24–11.

And Jackson Gutierrez accounted for four touchdowns in Navy’s 38–34 loss to UTSA Saturday at the Alamodome. Gutierrez completed three of seven passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 139 yards and two more scores on 21 carries.

Jackson played high school football at San Antonio Jay under his father, Gary Gutierrez, who is now Seguin’s head football coach and athletic director.
