(Boston, Mass.) – A former Seguin Matador is getting his opportunity to lead a major college football program, and the Seguin community will have a chance to watch it happen on national television.
Former Seguin High School quarterback Corey Dailey is set to start for the University of Pittsburgh Panthers when they take on Boston College Saturday in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.
The Pitt road game kicks off at 11 a.m. Central Time and will be televised on ESPN2.
It’s a major opportunity for Dailey, who spent four years as the starting quarterback for the Seguin Matadors. During his high school career, Dailey played for his father, former Seguin Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Craig Dailey.
The younger Dailey now has an opportunity to showcase his talents on one of college football’s biggest stages, leading a Pitt team that enters Saturday’s game with a 5-1 record.
The opportunity is also a special moment for the Dailey family and the Seguin community, where Corey spent four years leading the Matador offense.
Meanwhile, another quarterback with ties to Seguin’s football program will also be in the spotlight Saturday.
Jackson Gutierrez, the son of current Seguin Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Gary Gutierrez, is expected to start for the Navy Midshipmen when they take on UTSA Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Jackson played high school football for his father at Jay High School in San Antonio before continuing his career at the Naval Academy.
Gutierrez helped lead Navy to a comeback victory over Tulsa last weekend, rushing for 232 yards and three touchdowns.
Navy and UTSA kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
For Seguin football fans, Saturday offers two opportunities to watch quarterbacks with connections to the Matador football program compete at the major college level.
