Seguin Fall Festival returns Saturday

Seguin Fall Festival returns Saturday

(Seguin) — The annual Seguin Fall Festival returns this weekend to downtown Seguin.

The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. The event is hosted by the Guadalupe County Emergency Management and the Guadalupe County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Patrick Pinder, Guadalupe County emergency management coordinator and fire marshal, says the festival began three years ago as a way to help to support the county’s volunteer fire departments.

“So, we began the Fall Festival 3 years ago as a way to raise awareness and raise some funds for the local fire departments here in the county,” said Pinder. “Everybody’s struggling, all the volunteer fire departments are struggling, and so we initially began this to do a fundraiser.

This year it’s grown a lot more. We’ve got a lot more real estate, more streets closed, a couple more blocks just to kind of grow the footprint so that we can try to raise a little bit more money.”

The festival grounds are free to enter, with food and craft vendors available throughout the day. The Kids Zone will offer all-day unlimited play for $20. The Kids Zone will feature two bounce houses, an obstacle course, a mechanical bull, a petting zoo, rides and face painting. Pinder says the first 500 children to come through will receive goody bags with small treats and other items.

Other events include a car show from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a pet costume contest at 1:30 p.m.

Entertainment will include performances by the Seguin High School Mariachi and Grupo Folklórico de Seguin High School from 3 to 4 p.m.

Live music will close out the festival from 7 to 9 p.m. Headlining the event will be Isaac Jacobs.

Pinder says folks will especially want to take note that the event will bring some important traffic changes downtown so planning ahead will be important.

“South Austin Street will be closed from Court Street to Washington Street, including the roadway in front of Burnt Bean Co. The entire downtown square will be closed to traffic, with barricades and detours in place. Drivers should expect possible delays when traveling near the festival area,” Pinder.

Those wishing to sign-up in advance for the car show are encouraged to visit the Guadalupe County Fire Rescue Facebook page.
