Zuehl Airport sustains damage during weekend fire

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

(New Berlin) — Multiple hangars, vehicles and airplanes sustained significant damage Saturday night following a fire at the Zuehl Airport.

According to Battalion Chief Ryan Orr, with the New Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, crews were dispatched Saturday at approximately 7:50 p.m. to the 400 block of Sport Aviation Drive for a reported hangar fire.

They say firefighters arrived to find a working structure fire involving multiple hangars,

Mutual aid was provided by the Marion Volunteer Fire Department, Bexar County Emergency Services District 12 Fire/Rescue and Guadalupe County Fire Rescue.

Fire crews remained on scene for approximately three hours working to extinguish the blaze,

Although initial reports indicated that someone might have been inside the structure, no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

Orr says the fire caused “significant damage to the hangars and several vehicles and aircraft housed inside.”

Orr also recognized the assistance of the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, Guadalupe County Emergency Management and Fire Marshal’s Office, and Guadalupe County dispatchers.

He says the Lake Dunlap Fire Department also assisted by moving an engine and command unit to help cover response areas while crews worked at the area airport.

Investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
