Second Round of "Fix-It" Facade Grant apps now underway
Special by Lindsay Hajek, Assistant Director of Main Street and Destination Seguin

(Seguin) — The City of Seguin continues its commitment to downtown revitalization with the second round of “Fix-It” Facade Grant funding for the 2026 fiscal year. Building on the momentum of earlier awards this year, additional funding will support more projects focused on improving building exteriors. In recognition of Historic Preservation Month this May, the City is proud to highlight these ongoing efforts as preservation in action.

During the second call for applications, seven submissions were received from downtown property and business owners. Projects include a variety of exterior improvements focused on accessibility, structural repairs and visual enhancements:

  • The Canopy — door, awning and ADA ramp
  • Kicks and Giggle Baby Boutique — mechanically operated door with push-button access for ADA accessibility
  • 217 South River — new roof and repair of all exterior windows and doors
  • The Texas Theatre — roof repair
  • 106, 108 and 110 East Court — window and door repair
  • The Listening Room Seguin —lighted sign
  • River City Bail Bonds — electrical work to support signage

Through this second round of grant applications, City Council and the Main Street Advisory Board have approved over $34,000 in grants to support improvements in the Historic District. These funds will leverage additional investments by property and business owners, contributing to more than $140,000 in total project costs.

Earlier this year, City Council approved funding for three projects including reconstruction of a historic second-floor balcony at The Magnolia Hotel, exterior window and frame repairs at the Robert Raetzsch Attorney Office, and facade improvements at The Palace Theatre, including cleaning, repainting, entry repairs and tile work.

The “Fix-It” Facade Grant program provides matching funds for a wide range of exterior improvements, including restoration, painting, window and door repairs, awnings, lighting, signage and accessibility upgrades. By offsetting project costs, the program encourages downtown property owners to invest in their buildings.

Seguin also offers additional incentives that make it an attractive location for property owners and businesses. The Protect-It Grant provides financial support for fire suppression installations, a crucial element in activating second-floor spaceswithin the downtown district. The Business Improvement Grant offers up to $10,000 for property enhancements such as electrical work, plumbing or ADA accessibility upgrades, and is open to all small businesses within the city’s utility service area.

Thanks to City Council’s continued support, these programs help ensure downtown Seguin preserves its historic character while also supporting economic growth for the benefit of the entire community. Applications for the next fiscal year will reopen on October 1, 2026. If you are a business or property owner interested in applying, please contact the Main Street Department for more information.
