Lorene Herbold Schievelbein, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on October 2, 2026, in Seguin. She was born on January 18, 1929, in Guadalupe County, Texas.
Lorene will be remembered as a woman who loved her family with her entire heart and made that love known in the everyday ways that matter most. She cherished gathering her family around the table, and Sunday lunches were a special tradition, giving her time to cook for those she loved and enjoy being together. She was a great cook who took special joy in making each grandchild a favorite dish suited to their tastes, a simple and tender way of caring for each one individually.
She shared a happy life of 52 years with her late husband, Frank “Pete” Schievelbein. Lorene worked for 35 years at Nolte Bank where she made friends with many of the friendly faces she met daily. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed woodworking, and they also worked side by side gardening and canning foods, especially okra, sweet pickles, and beets. Lorene was gifted in many ways. She loved quilting and making numerous baby blankets that will remain treasured keepsakes. She was also an amazing seamstress. Her giving spirit extended into her community through volunteer work at the hospital and at church. She was also a faithful member of the 6:15 water aerobics class at the wellness center, a routine that reflected both her energy and her steady nature.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Schuerg and husband Alvin and Diane Vandenberg; her daughter-in-law, Kelly Schievelbein; her grandchildren, Morgan Schuerg and Sarah, Kellen Basham and Travis, Kenna Dearing and Joey, Matthew Vandenberg, and Kolby Hensley and Ryan; her sisters, Lydia Whitwell and Hazel Kutac and Kenneth; and her sister-in-law, Goldie Herbold. In each of these relationships, Lorene’s warmth, devotion, and generous heart will continue to be felt and remembered.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank “Pete” Schievelbein; son, Kenneth Schievelbein; parents, Henry and Hedwig Herbold; brothers, Roland Herbold, John Herbold, Marvin Herbold, and Leroy Herbold; and sisters, Nola Kleinschmidt, Lucille Krenz, and Estelle Illhardt.
