(Seguin) — The Seguin Noon Lions Club is again inviting the entire community out to dinner. The club on Thursday will host its annual Fall Fling drive-thru event Thursday night outside the Silver Center in downtown Seguin.
Lion Bill Klingemann says this event is made popular by the pork steak dinners that will be sold that night.
“For many, many years (in the spring) we had the pork steak dinners and additionally, we had a raffle. A lot of people came to us and said, your pork steaks are so good. Of course, they’re not our pork steaks. They’re Troy Brown’s (Next Door Catering) pork steaks. But nonetheless, they are so good that people said, why don’t you do that again in the fall,” said Klingemann.
Klingemann says if you haven’t enjoyed the plates before, he says you’re in for a real treat. He says the entire meal is one that you will enjoy.
“Every year, I’ll sell some tickets to somebody who’s never gone before, and then they’ll go and they’ll say, my gosh, they were so delicious, so tender (and) I want to do that again next year. So. it’s always that good. And of course, it’s not just the pork steaks. It’s those lovely potatoes that he puts together. I still don’t know how he does it or what he does. And then the green bean — and as I’ve said before, I don’t like green beans, but I love his green beans. They’re so good. So, it’s a meal worth enjoying, and everybody that comes out there comes by satisfied,” said Klingemann.
It’s a drive-thru only event, which means that you will pull into the San Marcos Street side of the Silver Center and then loop around the building to pick up your plates. Klingemann says they will get people in and out quickly.
“We have people bringing the food out. We have tables set up to deliver the food. We get people going through in two lines. And yes, there’ll be a little bit of a backup, but it’s never that long. And we get people through and home and they can enjoy the pork steaks and that’s what it’s all about,” said Klingemann.
The plates are $15 each if they are purchased before Thursday, or they are $20 during the event. Tickets can be purchased from any member of the Noon Lions Club. They are also available at the Silver Center, Starcke Furniture, Ascot’s Custom Travel or at Tri-County AC & Heating.
The plate sale is one of the biggest fundraisers for the local club. Club members use the money to support several programs for young people. On Wednesday, the Seguin Daily News will look at some of the ways that the club is using that money to benefit the community.
