(Seguin) — Guadalupe Regional Medical Center is once again inviting women to stop by, bring a friend and enjoy a mimosa this Saturday morning.
The free community event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the GRMC Central Entrance Lobby. The annual event has become a way for the hospital to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month — encouraging women to make breast health and screening a priority.
Chelsea Maldonado, GRMCS’s executive director of marketing, says the event is designed to combine education with a fun relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
“We started Mammos & Mimosas — gosh, it’s been at least 6 years now that we’ve done it here at the hospital and we do it to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is the month of October. So, we really like to have our Mammos & Mimosas event, usually the last Saturday of September. Truly what we’re trying to do is create an event, that is educational, that provides resources for breast cancer awareness or just breast health screenings and then also incorporate some fun types of luxuries, like, sweet treats — we have cotton candy. We have a mimosa bar. We have a photo booth, we have local vendors here so you can also shop and get education and resources, and just kind of enjoy a morning for women and young girls, because, you know, there is this rise in breast cancer and we really want to make sure that our community is educated and aware of how to best protect themselves,” said Maldonado.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet members of the GRMC imaging team and tour the hospital’s Women’s Imaging Center.
Maldonado says the tours are intended to help ease some of the concerns people may have about getting a mammogram.
“The reason we don’t do mammograms the day of is because we want people to be able to walk into our women’s imaging center — it is truly so advanced and it’s also very beautiful and we want people to see the technology. A lot of people are very fearful of the machines and so if you get to see it before you actually have to have any sort of screening or procedure done — it sometimes makes it a little easier when you come back in to get that mammogram. We will have a radiologist here. We also have all of our imaging tech, so the person that would be assisting you with the mammogram will be here on Saturday, so you can also meet them before you would come back in for that appointment and get to know them. And the tours are a lot of fun because you kind of get to see behind the scenes and all the different technologies that we have. So, it’s a great experience,” said Maldonado.
The first 100 people through the door will receive a special GRMC-branded cap. Those who register for a mammogram will also receive a GRMC Mammos & Mimosas-branded wine tumbler.
Those who participate in a Women’s Imaging Center tour also will be entered into a drawing to win an espresso machine.
The GRMC Central Entrance lobby is located next door to the emergency room.
