(Seguin) – Hundreds of Seguin ISD kids have already enjoyed the show, so now it’s time for the adults to get a look at what they have been talking about.
This Saturday afternoon, Seguin High School’s Matador Theatre will be wrapping up this year’s children’s show production with one final public performance of “Between the Lines Jr.”
Theatre Teacher Lydia Robles says SHS students have been performing for younger students from across Seguin ISD this past week.
Robles says the annual children’s show gives those students an opportunity to experience live theater while also seeing what could be possible for them in the future.
“Our current high school students will talk about their experiences as a child and how they always enjoyed it, how it was their first experience with theater — with a live performance. And I like to think, absolutely, that’s kind of something that stirs the student to get engaged in creativity and fine arts in general,” said Robles.
The theater students performed for Seguin ISD third- to eighth-grade students on Thursday and are scheduled to perform for four additional schools Friday.
For Robles and her students, those school performances are among the year’s highlights.
“This is one of the things that’s their favorite part of the entire year. To have an entire auditorium filled with young students who have come to watch your show and the energy that they give off, you know, just saying good morning and you hear 800 young people say good morning back to you. It just zings you with excitement. It’s absolutely awesome,” said Robles.
Robles says her students have pieced together a great show and encourages folks in the community to also come out and enjoy its wonderful storyline.
“‘Between the Lines Jr.’follows a high school girl who is struggling after her parents’ divorce and a move to a new school. She discovers a book that transports her into the world of a fairy tale, where she finds a sense of belonging and becomes connected to one of the characters,” said Robles.
She adds that although it’s deemed a children’s show, the overall message is for everyone.
“And it’s the story about discovering your purpose even in maybe your hardest moment that you might experience. Um, what it is that we can do to pull through or to pull ourselves through. It’s a really sweet story. And it’s got a really fun twist at the end too. So it’s a great show,” said Robles.

Theatergoers are also encouraged to bring a canned food donation as part of the Texas Thespian Society’s Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat community service initiative. Donations will help support people in need in the local community.
