(Seguin) — Lightning and severe weather caused another long night for area football teams Friday.
Seguin’s district opener against Manor was delayed for more than two hours before the Mustangs defeated the Matadors, 44-0, at Matador Stadium. The game ended well after midnight, marking the second time this season that weather pushed a Seguin game into the following day.
The Matador offense showed improvement and put together some of its most productive drives of the season but could not finish them with points. Seguin’s defense also produced several stops, but costly breakdowns on both sides of the ball helped Manor pull away.
Weather also disrupted Navarro’s home game against La Grange at Erwin-Lee Field. The non-district contest was canceled and will not be made up after both teams decided against waiting out the storm.
Meanwhile, Marion suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Devine, 23-14, on the road. The Bulldogs are now 2-1.
