SEGUIN, Texas — After helping the Bulldogs earn a pair of wins last week, freshman forward Naiema Almaraz (Danbury/Angleton) and junior defender Monica Sitachitta (Spring/Grand Oaks) of the Texas Lutheran women’s soccer team swept the inaugural Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) weekly honors for the 2026 season as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Almaraz was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while Sitachitta was named the Defensive Player of the Week. The honors are the first in both players careers. It is the third time under head coach Kerwin Johnson that the Bulldogs have swept the SCAC weekly honors.
A native of Danbury, Texas, Almaraz scored the first goal of the 2026 season to help TLU earn a 2-1 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Sept. 1.
Then on Sept. 3, Almaraz netted her second goal of the season against Schreiner to cap the Bulldogs 3-0 shutout road victory. With the goal, Almaraz became the first TLU freshman to score in their first two collegiate games since at least 2013.
Hailing from Spring, Texas, Sitachitta and the TLU defense limited a high-powered UMHB offense to just five shots on goal in a match that saw the junior defender play all 90 minutes. Against Schreiner, Sitachitta helped the defense tally its first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory. The TLU backline held Schreiner to no shots on goal in the match.
