
BELTON, Texas — Texas Lutheran Volleyball picked up their first sweep of the 2026 season Friday morning, sweeping Alverno (25-7, 25-17, 25-18) at Mayborn Campus Center on the campus of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Friday morning matchup was the first time the two programs have ever faced off.
Freshman Sydney Jones (Dallas/Community) led the Bulldogs with six kills and added two blocks. Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace), Ava Search (Richmond/Needville), Taylar Thompson (San Antonio/Warren), Faith Sosa (San Antonio/MacArthur), and Briana Salvatierra-Moore (San Antonio/Antonian College Prep) all finished with three kills.
TLU jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first set and never looked back as they won the opening set 25-7. The Bulldogs ended the set with a 16-3 run aided by four service aces from Addison Gallegos (Floresville/Jourdanton). Gallegos finished with five aces in Friday morning’s action.
Head coach Phyllis Fowler showed off the team’s depth in the second set, turning to mostly underclassmen and transfers to take the second set 25-17. After a 5-1 opening run to start the set, the set never came closer than 13-11 before a closing 12-6 run from TLU.
It was all Texas Lutheran in the third set as a four kill set from Sydney Jones led the Bulldogs to a 25-18 set win. The Inferno never reached double digit kills in any set on Friday and were held to a .027 hitting percentage.
