(Seguin) — Get ready to sing along — the Seguin Sunrise Lions Club is turning up the music Saturday for its fourth SINGO fundraiser.
The Seguin Sunrise Lions Club says SINGO is one of it most popular fundraisers and is inviting the community to sing, dance and compete for prizes.
SINGO will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Silver Center.
Omar Maldonado, president of the Seguin Sunrise Lions Club, says the event was created as a new way for the club to raise money while giving people an opportunity to have fun together.
“I had the idea of coming up with a new fundraiser for the Seguin Sunrise Lions Club, and my first thought was SINGO,” said Maldonado. “SINGO is not a unique idea. It’s a bar game that’s played around locally. It’s basically bingo, but using songs. You play it like bingo –you get five diagonal, horizontal or vertical, you win. You’ll just hear snippets of songs. I figured, why not apply that as a fundraiser? We tried it out in August of 2025, and it ended up being quite successful. Then every single time we’ve done it, it’s just gotten bigger and bigger and bigger. Now, the word of mouth has been incredible.”
Unlike traditional bingo, Maldonado says participants do not need to know the names of songs, artists or when the music was released to take part.
“Apprehension usually comes down to, ‘Oh, do I need to know the song or the artist or the year it came out or something like that?’ No, no, no,” said Maldonado. “All I’m doing is playing music, and I will let you know what the song title is, and you all have to just mark it down on your board. There’s no musical knowledge required. You go in there, and we encourage people to sing and dance because it is a lively community event.”
Maldonado will once again serve as the host, something he says adds to the overall fun.
“I do love doing this, so I encourage the more interaction, the better for me,” said Maldonado. “I say no apprehension. Just come in there with a good singing voice or a bad singing voice — I don’t judge. You get your chance to win some great prizes, and there’s also some trivia in between, so you might get a little door prize, too, in between. If you do have some knowledge, I will play around with that.”
Tickets are $20 and include five rounds of songs and prizes. Tickets will be sold at the door beginning at 3:30 p.m., although cards are limited.
Proceeds from Saturday’s SINGO benefit local charities and service projects supported by the Seguin Sunrise Lions Club. The Silver Center is located at 510 E. Court St.
