Special by Lindsay Hajek, assistant director of Main Street and Destination Seguin
(Seguin) — Fall may still be a little ways off, but Main Street is already making plans to decorate downtown for the season.
Since its debut in 2000, the Scarecrow & Skeleton Display Contest has invited local businesses and organizations to get creative with displays that highlight their businesses and celebrate the fall season.
Blaire Friar, Director of Main Street and DestinationSeguin, looks forward to seeing the creativity local businesses and organizations bring to the contest each year.
“One of my favorite parts of fall is seeing our downtown businesses decorate their storefronts,” said Friar. “Each display has its own personality, and together they create a fun experience that gives people another reason to explore and enjoy downtown.”
The contest is open to any local business or organization, and participants do not have to be located downtown. Main Street will help businesses and organizations outside the district find a downtown location for their display.
Entries will be judged on creativity and originality by a panel of judges on Thursday, October 1. Displays should be installed by Wednesday, September 30, and remain up through October 31 so the community can enjoy them all month long.
Participation is free. Entry forms are available at the Main Street office, 200 South Austin Street, or online at www.seguintexas.gov. Completed entry forms are due by September 25.
